Covent Garden, London
Independent art cinema

Located in the heart of Covent Garden, Central London, the extension to The Garden Cinema enhances its iconic Art Deco cinema design. The project includes newly designed lounge, bar areas and corridor, reconfigures the box office, and additional customer toilets to meet growing demand and improve the overall visitor experience.

At the heart of the space is a beautiful four-storey atrium that floods the interior with natural light, creating a captivating focal point. The design reflects owner Michael Chamber’s vision and passion for Art Deco design, which Muzo brought to life through a considered and creative approach, working closely with the owner throughout.

The extension incorporates a colour scheme of creams, pale blue, warm orange, and the cinema’s signature red, which is used throughout. It introduces a lighter, complementary colour palette that brings a fresh energy to the original architecture. Custom banquette seating in deep teal velvet, geometric flooring, and curved detailing evoke classic Art Deco cinema interiors, while detailed coffers, cornices, and skirting feature original, unique designs with exceptional attention to detail. Artworks by artist Pablo Melchor complete the space, contributing an original and artistic dimension to the Art Deco aesthetic. The lounge and bar areas are designed as inviting, social spaces for discussions, screenings, and Q&As.

This extension builds on the unique character of The Garden Cinema, adding to its story while keeping the essence of what makes it so special.
